Multitrax is introducing an old musical phrasing concept in a new way - 3/4 Step! Currently, step music is formatted in 4 sets of 8 counts, for a total of 32 counts to a block. 3/4 Step is in a 6 count musical structure, with 24 counts to a block.
How do we work on the 3/4 time? Well, think of waltzing, which is counted 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3. Now, replace that waltz move with a basic alternating mambo pattern on the step (no marches on the floor in between each mambo). This means the choreography and combinations will be affected on counts 1, 4, 7 & 10 rather than the traditional 1, 5, 9 & 13. For example, 4x alternating mambos makes 12 counts, plus 4x over the top without the traditional tap on the floor makes 12 counts, for a total block of 24 counts. If you want to transition to the other lead leg you can do 3x basic step or 3x L-step.
Please note that counts 7 and 8 don't exist in the 3/4 step workout, so if you want to utilize any 4 count moves, such as a basic step, you'll have to mentally override the music for a few counts.
This new way of using 6 count phrased music introduces a whole new dimension to the concept of step, which is very exciting, as it opens up a new world in creating choreography for your classes. In addition, this 3/4 workout is 100% suitable for the Ramp workout, which has recently burst into the fitness industry in a big way! So if you're ready to add a new twist to your step workouts or you want to be the first in your area to teach the Ramp workout, this music is here to guide you! |
